NWBIFF uses an evaluation system in which screenplays do not compete against one another but are assessed entirely on their own merits. Each submission is reviewed individually, allowing for a fair appraisal of its strengths and qualities rather than measuring it against other entries. In practical terms, each screenplay “competes against itself.” Every entry is judged on its intrinsic merits and scored according to a defined internal value scale. When it is your screenplay’s turn to be evaluated, the judge’s full attention is on your work, not on other projects in the queue. This focus helps reduce comparison-based bias and supports a fair assessment of the unique artistic voice, structure, and storytelling of each screenplay. |

“The Western Slope” is a visually rich, character‑driven Western with a
strong sense of place and a compelling ensemble. Its frontier
world—lumber mills, sacred Sequoias, and harsh mountain terrain—feels
cinematic and immersive, giving the story real scale. |
